Hello, my name is Robert Kent
I've always been passionate about web development and web design. During my degree course at the University of St Andrews I gained experience in server-side scripting in PHP, Java and MySQL database connectivity as well as learning front-end techniques with XHTML, CSS and JavaScript. In my junior honours year I was a member of a team awarded the Data Connection prize for our Facebook application, CMote, which unfortunately is no longer active. Using live location data from devices carried by students we created an application so users could see popular locations they and their friends had visited, see an interactive map of this data and even play a Virus game where players could spread a custom made virus to others near them and check which of their friends were infected.
Since 2010 I have been working in web development and played a variety of roles in all stages of the development process from design to implementation through to maintenance. I have produced work for a broad range of clients from small businesses to art galleries and film festivals, including the Edinburgh International Film Festival. I have a wide knowledge of web technologies and techniques including design theory, rapid prototyping, usability design and testing, MySQL database design and management.

I believe in creating effective and interactive website and web applications focused on excellent user experience. My interest in design and programming comes from my passion to create software that not only appeals visually but is enjoyable and useful to use. With websites and web applications I gain the ability to reach an enormous, cross platform audience and I'd like to create applications that people want to use.
I am always keen to expand my knowledge of web techniques and technologies; I've subscribed to dozen of blogs and people on Twitter. There's always a mountain of new information but I'm keen to read through it whenever I get the chance. I guess that's why I enjoy working on the web so much: it's constantly evolving and changing so no two projects will ever be quite the same
If you'd like to see some of the work I have done, feel free to look around the site. If you want to get in touch there's the contact page, you could drop me an email or you could check out the links at the bottom
Thanks for stopping by!
